#19 - An Epic Trilogy Concludes...

19 – THE DARK KNIGHT RISES:    Up next is my favorite caped crusader besides the two in Kickass : Batman.   Christopher's Nolan and Bale return, along with their amazing cast which includes newcomers Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Anne Hathaway, Marion Cotillard, and Tom Hardy (talk about A-list).  Eight years have passed since Batman disappeared and Bruce Wayne locked himself away in his manor, yet Bane has come to force him out of retirement.  Catwoman and Bane seriously make this movie for me, whose controversial, speech-distorting mask gives every line comedic possibilities.  Try saying ANYTHING in the Bane voice to an unsuspecting person.  You know you want to.  It’s hilarious.  And then there’s this:

This movie has countless flaws, and is fairly predictable, yet I had a great time with it nonetheless.  Anne Hathaway steals every scene she’s in with her effortless sarcastic wit.  Some very interesting socioeconomic parallels are present as well, 99% vs. 1% stuff.  Too much dialogue and coming off a predecessor that it could never equal, DKR disappointed many but it was still fantastic entertainment.  Hans Zimmer once again proves he is among the best in the business with his original score and Gotham looks amazing as a set piece.  The filmmakers compiled shots of a dozen major US cities to capture that unique feeling.  I first saw this one at the midnight IMAX showing with my roommate, and the next morning’s news from Aurora, CO sent a chill down my spine.  RIP to those who perished trying to enjoy something they loved, you will not be forgotten.
